Applicants will no longer have to call their examiners to find out when their
applications will be examined. Thanks to the ‘direct informing service’ provided
by KIPO, applicants will receive information about their examination schedule
one month prior to the beginning of examination either through e-mail or SMS
(Short Message Service) on their cell phone.
In order to inform
applicants directly about the examination schedule, KIPO (Commissioner: JUN,
Sang Woo) had established a related computerized system last October. Starting
from the primary notice of examination results in November, the office will use
its ‘direct informing service’ for the examination schedule.
In order to
use the ‘direct informing service’, applicants must do the following:
1. Go
to the KIPO homepage and register as a member.
2. After login, go to ‘My
page’ and then to ‘Mailing service.’
3. Apply for ‘direct informing
service’.
All applicants who have already applied for ‘Mailing service’
will be informed of their primary examination schedule without additional
registration.
This service is expected to support applicants in their
decisions about timing for commercialization and to provide an opportunity for
self-correction by informing applicants about the primary examination schedule
in advance. It is expected to clarify patent administration as well as increase
customers’ satisfaction.
